Whiting & Davis Co. Mesh Bag

Whiting & Davis Co. Mesh BagThis is an image of my grandmother's enameled fish scale mesh purse that my mother inherited then gave to me.  Lois Erin Deason Key would have been 26 in August of 1928, but I could not prove that it was an era purse until I found pictures of similar purses in MAFCA's Fashion Guidelines.  Inside my purse is a little (1.3 cm. x .4 cm) metal tag that reads (with a magnifying glass) "WHITING & DAVIS CO. MESH BAGS"  which is the company mentioned in the fashion guidelines.

The frame on this mesh purse is 9.5 cm. wide and the mesh about 10.5 cm. wide when stretched.  The mesh (not including the frame) is 14.5 cm. from top to bottom.  From the top of the chain link handle to the tip of the uneven bottom it is about 30.5 cm.

The frame looks the same on each side so I cannot tell a front and a back.  The raised decoration in the center of the frame is a basket of flowers.   There are raised rose images in each of the frame's four corners. The color is obviously worn on both the frame and the mesh, but the dominate color is green.  The colors on the mesh do not appear to form a specific design.  The colors are green, coral, white, and black.  The inside appears to have never been colored.  Unlike other mesh bags that I have seen, this bag does not show any wear and tear on the spiral wire that attaches the mesh to the frame of the bag.
